Tanvi Mathew, M.S., LPC
I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychiatric Rehabilitation from Kean University. During my undergraduate practicum I was able to work with adults experiencing severe and persistent mental illness. I fell in love with the field of mental health and proceeded with my graduate studies and at this time I transitioned from working with adults to adolescents. I went on to receive my Masters of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from (the former) University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) practicing in New Jersey.
As a wife, mother and therapist I believe strongly that in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, relationships and truly be content with your life and surroundings individuals must have the ability acknowledge how experiences shape them. We have to be willing to learn, process and communicate to break down barriers and overcome obstacles that may be hindering us from progressing in our lives.
I have been working in the field over 10 years and I have a passion to work with adolescents, young adults, parents and families in forms of individual and family therapy. Teenagers have great capability to make changes, however they require guidance, support and nurturing. Similarly, parents sometimes need to develop the right skills and tools to be able to provide a listening ear and be capable to support their families. Fostering these important relationships is no easy task day to day, but it can be done well when you are able to put things in perspective.
